Poetry Reading: Community

Poetry Reading: Community

Five local poets will read their works and answer questions about their writing process and their experiences of finding and building community in unique ways. Dan Kaufman lives near Jacksonville. Active in the Rogue Valley poetry community, his writing has appeared in print and online and has been recognized by the Oregon Poetry Association. Marisa Peterson’s poetry captures vignettes of her life in other countries, happenings in her neighborhood, surprises in her unwieldy organic garden, and her delight in playing “Nani” to an imaginative grandson. Her poetry has been published in Timberline Review, The Jefferson Monthly, and several anthologies. Kathy Pyle moved to Jacksonville from Iowa in 1996. She has a background in science-based field education programs, marketing, journalism and horticulture. Her special poetic passion is for the natural and human history of this area. Vincent Wixon’s most recent book of poems is Laying By (Flowstone). He coedited four of Oregon Poet Laureate William Stafford books, including Sound of the Ax: Aphorisms and Poems. Patty Wixon’s most recent book of poems is Dear Spoon (Wellstone). Her new chapbook, Opening the Door, is forthcoming this summer. Patty’s delicious baked goods have sustained many a Rogue Valley poet. Vince and Patty hosted the William Stafford Birthday Celebration held at the Hannon Library at Southern Oregon University for many years, and also served as the Jefferson Journal’s poetry editors. Come join us and hear this outstanding local talent!
