Allison and Victor to Perform @ Juneteenth Celebration in Coos Bay, Oregon

Allison and Victor to Perform for 2nd Annual Juneteenth Event in 2022

Allison Scull and Victor Martin will perform at the Coos History Museum for the 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration 2022, in Coos Bay, Oregon. Performing on Saturday, June 18th and Sunday, June19th, noon-2pm, this acoustic jazzy and soulful duo have just released a new music. Entitled Nation of Jubilation, their title track is a song about celebrating the things all humans have in common such as our innate goodness and the beauty of nature. According to Jim Dyar of Enjoy Magazine, this duo’s sound “blends elements of folk, jazz, blues, European and Latin music, all of which translates into a laid-back, tranquil vibe that tends to put people at ease.” Allison will perform on guitar and vocals while Victor will play on saxophone and also sing.

Juneteenth is a portmanteau of the words June and nineteenth. It marks the day that Union troops, including Black soldiers, led by General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, a month after the end of the Civil War and two and half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln. Texas was the westernmost boundary of the Confederacy and Galveston itself was held by the Confederates for most of the Civil War. General Granger and his troops marched from the Union Headquarters, to the Galveston County Courthouse and to Reedy Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church to announce and post General Order #3 which stated that the 250,000 enslaved people in Texas were free and asserted “absolute equality of personal rights” for the formerly enslaved.
Educational displays and activities are planned all weekend at the Museum from 11am-4:30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
