JPR Live Session: Justin Moses

Ways To Subscribe

The brilliant multi-instrumentalist and singer joined us from his home in Nashville for some virtuosic bluegrass picking with help from his wife Sierra Hull.

Justin Moses discovered bluegrass a little later than one might expect, considering the two-time IBMA dobro player of the year is equally proficient (if not even better) at guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and the kind of high tenor singing that leaps from an album with fire.

As a child, Moses was involved primarily in the church music and traditional country music of his parents. But after hearing his Uncle's Doyle Lawson album, plus an appearance of Alison Krauss and Union Station on Austin City Limits set things in motion. The rest of virtuosic history - especially considering Moses only had a few weeks' worth of structured lessons.

He's since shared the stage with the aforementioned Krauss, Del McCoury, Garth Brooks, Emmylou Harris,Vince Gill, Bruce Hornsby, Béla Fleck, and Peter Frampton among others, and won a Grammy award for his work on Dan Tyminski's solo effort Wheels.

He shared a few tunes from his brilliant debut album called Fall Like Rain, with assistance from his equally talented wife Sierra Hull.

As FM Network Program Director and Music Director, Eric oversees many aspects of JPR's broadcast day. He still hosts the occasional Open Air or classical music shift, and is the driving force behind JPR Live Sessions - our popular series of live in-studio music performances and conversations.
