A landslide has closed Highway 58 between Lowell and Oakridge. A thousand yards of trees and debris are blocking the road. There is a detour on the west side at Lowell and on the east side at Crescent Junction. ODOT crews are on site to assess the slide.

Angela Beers-Seydel from Oregon Department of Transportation says this is a more technical process than simply scooping up the dirt.

“When we have 40-60 trees down that means somebody has to crawl through the mud and cut those trees up with a chainsaw. It means we’re using equipment to move as many trees as we can.”

Beers-Seydel says work on the landslide may continue into the night and the road is not likely to be open today. Travelers are asked to avoid the area. Current conditions at
