Oregon State Police Trooper Nic Cederberg was shot multiple times by a homicide suspect on Christmas night. The suspect was fatally shot in the incident.

The Oregon State Police trooper shot on Christmas Day remains in critical condition.

But state police said Thursday that Trooper Nic Cederberg was able to talk for the first-time Wednesday night.

Cederberg was shot multiple times Sunday night while he was pursuing a homicide suspect near Sherwood.

This week, he’s undergone three surgeries at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.

Police have declined to disclose any details about Cederberg’s injuries.

But Cederberg’s brother wrote on a GoFundMe page that his brother's condition is “improving by the hour, and most of the major repair work has been addressed.”

Jeff Cederberg said his brother was "pretty emotional" as he thanked the medical staff "for saving his life. He even apologized for the foul language and promised that he would work on it."

The Washington County Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
