Eugene City Manager Jon Ruiz wants the city to start budgeting for 2021 when it hosts the Track & Field World Championships.

Ruiz wants the city to set aside a half million dollars in anticipation of the 2021 Track and Field World Championships. It’s the largest athletic event of that year-- and the first time it will be held in the United States.
Ruiz: “Eugene will be introduce to hundreds of thousands of people around the world and so are there some things that we would like to do leading up to that and during that event that really showcase us as Eugene?”
Ruiz says the city might want to highlight sustainability, transportation, youth programs and recreation.
This summer, Eugene is hosting the 2016 Track and Field Olympic trials for the third time in a row.
