The Trump Administration is trying again to prevent a youth climate change lawsuit from going to trial. This week, the government asked two federal courts to halt the case.
The government really doesn’t want to get into a courtroom with 21 young people who are suing it over climate change.
“This week, the government filed its 12th and 13th motions to stay the case and stop it from going to trial.”
Eugene attorney Julia Olson represents the youth plaintiffs.
“The Department of Justice is really orchestrating a 3-ring circus right now and we should be litigating in one court, not 3 levels of the federal judiciary all at once.”
The Justice Department this week filed a motion for a stay in U.S. District court and applied again to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals for a writ of mandate. Last week, the Supreme Court refused a request to halt the case. Meanwhile, attorneys for both sides meet with Eugene Federal Judge Ann Aiken Thursday. Olson hopes they’ll set a new trial date.
