On Friday night, January 24th at 8pm, JPR's Classics & News Service will broadcast the next concert in the series Carnegie Hall Live, featuring the Takács Quartet.
Recognized as one of the world's great ensembles, the Takács Quartet plays with a unique blend of drama, warmth and humor, combining four distinct musical personalities to bring fresh insights to the string quartet repertoire. Their program for Carnegie Hall Live will highlight a group of string quartets from one of the most important composers of the 20th century, Béla Bartók.
In 2012, Gramophone announced that the Takács was the only string quartet to be inducted into its first Hall of Fame, along with such legendary artists as JaschaHeifetz, Leonard Bernstein and Dame Janet Baker. The ensemble also won the 2011 Award for Chamber Music and Song presented by the Royal Philharmonic Society in London. Based in Boulder at the University of Colorado, the Takács Quartet performs ninety concerts a year worldwide, in North America, throughout Europe as well as in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.
In partnership with Carnegie Hall and WQXR, Carnegie Hall Live is a season of “must-have” classical music events, broadcast live from the nation’s most famous concert hall. The series includes concerts from all three of Carnegie Hall’s iconic stages: Weill Recital Hall, Zankel Hall and Stern Auditorium.
