'Torture and Democracy'
One of the most controversial national security debates of the last decade has to do with the definition of a word. What counts as torture? This semantic argument -- depending on who you talk to -- has implications either for our ability to prevent another terrorist attack, or our country’s ability to maintain its basic moral fiber and integrity. Rejali is the author of Torture and Democracy.

Local Returns Round-Up
Upsets on the city council. Smooth passage of usually iffy property tax hikes. One-time stalwart red counties on the cusp of turning blue. Races that can't be called until the last vote is counted. This year voters seemed to reject the status quo on both the national and local levels. What shifts have you seen in your community? We examine some of the smaller races of 2008, and the big changes they may represent. Guests include: Silas Lyons, editor of the Redding Record-Searchlight; Bob Hunter, editor of the Medford Mail-Tribune; Jackson County Clerk Chris Walker; and Jim Godbold, associate editor of the Eugene Register-Guard.
