Coos County Signal Update
JPR's signals in Coos County have experienced a variety of impairments in recent months and we want you to understand the background of those events. The conversion of JPR's transmission system to HD digital radio has involved replacing virtually all of the microwave transmitters that relay our signals to our main transmitters and translators. The new system has proven less robust than its predecessor and, as a result, we have taken numerous steps to harden the system - installing new, larger microwave dishes (as large as 10 feet in diameter) and constructing one new tower - in advance of winter.
We have been heavily occupied racing the weather to complete that work before snowfalls prevent it. The next step involves installing additional parts for these new dishes in order to make them operational. Those parts have been ordered and were in transit to us last week. We had hoped that they would arrive by last Friday but, in fact, the shipper attempted to deliver them yesterday (Monday).
Because Southern Oregon University has closed for this entire week as an economy measure, the shipper was turned away from the University's loading dock and - as a result - we can't take delivery of these parts until early next week. The noise and interruption of our signals in Coos County stems from inadequate signal strength in the microwave system and, until we secure these parts, we can't take the next steps to resolve the problem. Neither you nor JPR are happy about the situation - but that's where things currently stand. We appreciate your patience as we solve this problem.
